Philosophy
At Columbia Kids Cooperative Preschool, we believe that each child is a precious individual, deserving of respect and of loving guidance in developing to his/her fullest potential.
We strive to provide the atmosphere, the environment, the experiences and the direction our children need to develop self reliance and a sense of pride and confidence.
We use a positive approach to discipline to foster in our children responsibility and a positive self image.
Curriculum
Guided by veteran early childhood teacher Virginia Triplett, both children and parents learn by doing. Our 3-, 4- and 5-year-olds have daily opportunities for fine and gross motor development, social interaction with peers and adults, art projects, imaginative play, physical play indoors and out, and introductory reading, writing and math skills.
Parents learn by working alongside “Miss Virginia,” who has been Columbia Kids’ preschool teacher for more than 20 years! Parents also meet on a regular basis for parent education sessions offered as part of the Family Studies program at Clark College. (All meetings are at the preschool in Battle Ground, not at Clark.)
Parent education includes reading and writing projects on subjects such as sibling rivalry, modern media, and brain development, and they provide an opportunity to discuss parenting with Virginia and other parents.
The Co-Op Model
Columbia Kids is a unique educational model in which teachers, children and parents work and learn together. Parents serve on the board, help in the classroom, provide snacks and raise funds, all of which keeps tuition affordable.
More importantly, the bond parents and families form through their involvement is one of our school’s greatest strengths.
Schedule
Classes are held Monday through Friday, 9 to 11:30 a.m. Most children attend two or three days per week.
Tuition and Fees
$190/quarter (10 weeks) for 2 days/week
or
$285/quarter for 3 days/week
and
$33/quarter for Clark College tuition
